If your man tells you he isn't into commercial holidays, tell him to break out a history book because he's missing out. What we know today as Valentines Day is rooted in an ancient pagan celebration called Lupercalia.
Lupercalia was "a violent, sexually charged festival that celebrated fertility, health, and purification". The day popped off with animal sacrifice, lashings from a priest with leather whips, and ended with the match-making of blood covered men and women who then fornicated until the sun came up. It was outlawed in the late 400's by our favorite Debbie Downer: The Church.
Romance may be dead, but unhinged blood soaked street orgies are not. Find that special someone and party on, dear ones. Ashley xo
